Nationals of Ukraine who wish or have to return from an ERRIN partner country* may be eligible to benefit from the ERRIN programme. Under the programme, Caritas International Belgium (CIB) is the contracted service provider for Ukraine. CIB has been implementing the Belgian government voluntary return programme as service provider worldwide since 2007.
CIB works with Caritas Ukraine as local service delivery partner to assist returnees, both voluntary and non-voluntary, with the first steps of their reintegration in Ukraine. After Ukraine gained independence in 1991, the Greek Catholic community started establishing Caritas branches in Ukraine. Initially the regional organisations focused on collecting and distributing humanitarian aid to the disadvantaged. Over time, the needs of the communities pushed Caritas in Ukraine to broaden the scope of its work. Caritas Ukraine is an umbrella organisation for more than 20 regional Caritas branches across Ukraine.
