ERRIN held its Global Meeting from 9 to 12 May in Dubai (UAE). In attendance, representatives of ERRIN European Partner Institutions (AT, BE, DE, DK, FR, NL, SE), ERRIN Service Providers (Caritas, EB Projektmanagement, ETTC, IRARA and WELDO), ERRIN Project Management Unit (PMU), the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and ICMPD. Initially planned as a yearly event of the ERRIN network, due to the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, this was the first Global Meeting organised since 2019.
The event represented a great opportunity for all ERRIN network partners to meet in person after a long time, and to discuss relevant topics with regard to the state of play of the joint reintegration services (JRS). The next steps foreseen for the closure of the ERRIN Programme – in addition to the transition to the Care Taker Programme and the Return and Reintegration Facility (implemented by ICMPD as of 1 July 2022) – have been important points on the agenda. Frontex representatives also delivered a presentation on the methodology, working arrangements and prospects as regards the new joint reintegration services programme implemented by the Agency as of 1 April 2022.
During the event, an interactive session was conducted, focussing mainly on the ERRIN Programme outcomes such as the added value, best practices, main challenges and lessons learnt – which could be further valued within the future JRS programmes. The gathering served also as an opportunity for Member States, Service Providers, ERRIN PMU and Frontex to conduct bilateral meetings.
